L&C water pump is up and running
L&C is proud to have contributed a new water pump to Manicaland, a north eastern province in Zimbabwe, which will provide fresh drinking water for upwards of 300 people for decades to come.

We are keen supporters of AquAid which, with every purchase of its water coolers that are installed in our offices, makes an automatic donation to The Africa Trust.

The Africa Trust works to bring sustainable solutions to poverty in Africa, including establishing sustainable supplies of clean water through the building of ‘Elephant Pumps’.

Elephant Pumps use a rope pulley system to bring water to the surface and are built using locally available materials. This means the community using the pump can easily make repairs if they need to, extending the life of the pump.

The new pump, which displays our logo on it, provides safe, clean drinking water to people that would otherwise not have access to it, and who may previously have had to walk for miles to retrieve water in buckets or containers.

Having access to clean water not only helps eliminate diseases in remote communities of Africa but can also be instrumental in helping children obtain an education. For example, depending upon the set-up in the community where the pump is, it is possible that a banana plantation could be established, with monies raised from sales of the fruit contributing towards children’s school fees.

To date, AquAid have built over 5,000 Elephant Pumps across parts of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Liberia bringing a life-time supply of clean, fresh drinking water to more than 2m people; and have donated in excess of £12 million to charity.
