Why choose a property survey?

A property survey provides critical insights into the condition of a home, protecting your investment. Here’s why it can be worth commissioning an independent survey.

Best practice

A mortgage valuation is for the lender, not for you. It won’t tell you anything about the actual condition of the property. Our partners at GoTo surveys will act in your best interests, and their work won’t put your mortgage at risk.

Independent

The surveyor works for you, not the bank or the estate agent. All GoTo surveyors are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and follow a strict code of conduct. If you ask your lender to organise a Homebuyer or Building Survey, they’re legally required to share the results with the lender which could affect your mortgage application. We strongly recommend arranging your own survey independently, so the report is yours alone.

In person survey

If your bank is offering a free valuation, it will likely be done remotely and not include a visit to the property. To get a proper understanding of its condition, you’ll need to arrange a separate survey where they visit the property in person.
